The film advertising and distribution process is possibly the most important section of the film itself. The huge variety in types of adverts like billboards, digital, flyering, magazine/newspapers means that in recent years more and more people have become aware of the enormous variety between film genres. Videos and trailers are going viral which is one of the best ways of getting noticed; take for example The Blair Witch Project. This film was made on such a tiny budget, but became so popular because of their distribution techniques. They managed to convince a mass audience that this was a real event, hence why their audiences were absolutely massive. It was a viral success and one to be admired. Within the horror genre it becomes a little harder to reach a mass audience because of viewing laws, but films such as Blair Witch have shown how you can get around that. With the combination of a trailer, a poster and magazine coverage you cover the main audiences for horror movies (especially if it is a horror specific magazine) and this is exactly what we did in our work.
