SKETCHES FOR MAGAZINE COVER & POSTER

Here you can see my very first sketches for the basic idea for my magazine cover and movie poster. They're super simplistic but they give me something to work from when I start my work on photoshop.

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

How effective is the combination of your product and ancillary texts?

The film advertising and distribution process is possibly the most important section of the film itself. The huge variety in types of adverts like billboards, digital, flyering, magazine/newspapers means that in recent years more and more people have become aware of the enormous variety between film genres. Videos and trailers are going viral which is one of the best ways of getting noticed; take for example The Blair Witch Project. This film was made on such a tiny budget, but became so popular because of their distribution techniques. They managed to convince a mass audience that this was a real event, hence why their audiences were absolutely massive. It was a viral success and one to be admired. Within the horror genre it becomes a little harder to reach a mass audience because of viewing laws, but films such as Blair Witch have shown how you can get around that. With the combination of a trailer, a poster and magazine coverage you cover the main audiences for horror movies (especially if it is a horror specific magazine) and this is exactly what we did in our work.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Horror Movie Questionnaire Analysis

Above you can see the charted results of our questionnaire we sent out regarding our horror movie. Out of the people we asked, 70% were under 18, 26% were ages 19-30 and two people asked were 50+. 38 out of the 50 asked were female, 9 were male and 3 preferred not to disclose this information.

When asked how often they watch horror films, over 50% responded with once every so often. 13/50 people answered either regularly or all the time, leaving 19% of people saying they don't ever watch horrors. Online or DVD were the two most popular responses when asked how they watch their favourite films, but a vast majority answered that they also visit the cinema.

We asked people to mark their favourite sub-genres of horror and the one that came out on top was psychological. Comedy, thriller and paranormal came next, and our least popular were slashers and gorenography.

Male gaze is when the media text is created in a certain way to fit to the position of an 'appraising hetero male.' They use techniques like lots of POV shots and close-ups of explicit body imagery. Best seen in the Cabin in the Woods scene when Jules and Curt are having sex in the forest and you see Jules in a very degrading light.
