Who do you think the primary and secondary target audience is for The Woman in Black and why?
The primary audience for this film was most likely Harry Potter and Daniel Radcliffe fans. His face was on every poster, and he was at the forefront of every single advert, not just because he was the main character. It also appeals to an audience who are looking to be properly scared as opposed to grossed out with guts and gore and then also fans of the book and stage show.

How was The Woman in Black marketed?
A massive selling point of the Woman in Black is the actors they managed to pull in. A lot of their audiences may have come through Daniel Radcliffe, because his fame as Harry Potter is absolutely huge with a generation of people who may have never watched thrillers. The sub-genres of this film are a mix between Thriller and Psych which although it has its scary points, it's not an overly terrifying horror film, again appealing to the younger audience that have come through Radcliffe/Harry Potter. They marketed it everywhere, there were constant trailers and teasers and posters with Dan's face slapped up on it everywhere. The film itself came from a stage show and a book which of course gained even more popularity for the film and because the stage show is a lot scarier, more people of the non-typical audience are more likely to watch the film.

Do you think the marketing materials for the film were appropriate? Why?
Although I think they exploited the fact they had Harry Potter in their films, for a film with a budget of the size that they had, it's no wonder they wanted to market it that much. It's definitely appropriate and they used what they had to create the biggest audience possible.

What kind of release did the film have?

On it's opening weekend, it was shown on 3,267 screens in the USA and UK alone, and it made roughly $25,812,412 in the same weekend in only USA and UK again. It has since been released in 38 countries after its release in Feb 2012.

How much did The Woman in Black cost to make? & what was the industry impact of The Woman in Black?
The budget for The Woman in Black was $17,000,000 and as you can see from the last question, that was made back in the opening weekend alone. The film itself was incredibly successful and has gone on to form a brand as such, bringing in the book, the play and the film as a full movie franchise.

Why do you think the film was so successful? (You must come up with at least two reasons).
The film was so successful because it drew in a new generation of horror-movie-goers because not only was it only rated a 15, but they took one of the most loved and well known characters in cinema today and made him their main character. It was also marketed incredibly well meaning that nearly everyone saw the trailer or had at least heard about it.
